Review:
Tim: I haven't played a ton of war games, so I had fun playing Blazing Angels: Squadrons of World War II. I'm also a big fan of aerial combat in fiction, whether in movies, television, or video games. So, I loved the idea of stepping into the shoes of a pilot during World War II. The game itself is fine- I have to admit it's far from a classic. The controls are fine, if a little rigid. The visuals weren't spectacular, but they work decently enough. The game is a bit repetitive, but you get to take part in a series of different missions in both the European and Pacific theaters, so it was nice getting a well-rounded view of the war.

As I said, I had fun playing this game, even as I recognized its limitations. It was fun getting to know the different characters and the story was decently entertaining. It's been many years since I beat this game now, but I remember it being quite short- I believe I wrapped it up in about 10 hours. I still remember snippets from the story- there's a few surprises along the way and you do get to know your squadron to a certain degree. That helped a lot- it really gave you the perspective of what an actual pilot might experience while flying during this war. The story is basic, but you get caught up in it. While playing it, I knew it wasn't a great game, but it was still fun to engage in this World War II aerial combat. There's real value in preserving history through games like this. I'd read a bunch of history about this time period, but it was interesting to be reminded of the realities of this time period while playing this game.

This isn't the kind of game I'd be interested in revisiting- there's better games in this genre. However, it was still enjoyable and I had a good time playing it. It reminds me that there's value in this kinds of historical games and I should make time to play more of them. Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII might be a tad generic as a video game, but it was still worth playing and I had a fun time with it.
