Review:
Tim: What's funny about watching The Wise Quacking Duck is that I actually remember seeing this animated short as a kid. Looney Tunes had hundreds and hundreds of shorts, and while I likely saw most of them during the course of my childhood, there's no way I could remember the vast majority of them. For some reason, this short sparked in my memory. The whole thing felt very familiar as I was watching it, but it was the moment when Daffy Duck tries to read the "bumps" in the man's head, and says there aren't any, so he'll make some- by smashing him in the head with a hammer. I remember being a young kid and just laughing and laughing at that moment.
I've always a big fan of the earlier Daffy Duck. He had some serious edge to him and it was great fun to watch. He was completely insane and that was hilarious. I like how this film reflects the times as it's not trying to coddle its audience and actually features some adult moments. There's a scene where Daffy pretends the man has cut off his head and throws ketchup all around to simulate a bloody mess. You won't see that in today's cartoons. There is also a crazy scene where Daffy gives an odd, sensual dance for the man. It's crazy and uncomfortable, and that was the 1940s if you were a kid.
This short only has 6 minutes, but it crams a lot into it. It's fast moving and funny and features all the types of antics you would expect from a Looney Tunes short. I really enjoyed The Wise Quacking Duck when I saw it in my childhood and nothing has changed now that I'm an adult. This is a very funny short.
