Review:
Tim: The very first Marvel One-Shot short film is an interesting look at a behind-the-scenes meeting between SHIELD Agents Couslon and Sitwell. It explains a post-credits scene from The Incredible Hulk, and it ties the Marvel Cinematic Universe together nicely.
This film does a good job of bridging different films in the MCU. We have Agents Coulson and Sitwell discussing the fact that they have orders to approach General Ross and ask for Emil Blonsky to be released so he can join The Avengers Initiative. The only problem is that Blonksy is also known as The Abomination, the villain in The Incredible Hulk. Apparently, many people view Bruce Banner as the villain, and Blonsky as an innocent, which is crazy, as Coulson and Sitwell discuss. They decide to find a patsy, someone who will so enrage General Ross that he'll never allow Abomination to be free. That's where the Consultant comes in.
Now, this little four minute film doesn't do a lot, but it does give some better context to that post-credits scene, and shows how that connects to this larger universe. That's actually really helpful, because it never made a lot of sense why Tony Stark would approach General Ross. It also explains where Abomination is, and how we shouldn't expect him to pop up in another film any time soon. These are small pieces of the overall MCU puzzle, but it's great that Marvel can use these One-Shot shorts to fill in some of those gaps.
Other than this, it's always nice to see more of Agent Coulson, and it helps us to get to know Agent Sitwell better, too. The Consultant is a fun little short, and best of all, it serves a larger purpose. I enjoyed this film.
