Review:
Tim: This is another early Lumiere film. It features Auguste Lumiere and several other men tearing down a wall. At under 1 minute, it's a single-shot film. Like most of these older, early films, it is just interesting to watch people who lived so very long ago.
In this case, the major action in the film is watching a wall get knocked down. I was actually surprised by how much dust and debris blew off when the wall crumbled. Being 1896, no one seemed overly concerned with breathing all that junk into their lungs. It made me laugh a little, but that was a different time and place.
Like most of these short documentary films, I don't have a whole lot to say. I love seeing these films from the early, early days of cinema. This one was a bit more action-packed than many (will they knock the wall down or won't they?). Apparently, Louis Lumiere would also play this film backward for audiences, much to their delight. I did see this film once backward, and it was indeed delightful. Serious film fans should enjoy this short film.
