Review:

Tim: I'm a big Wall-E fan. I still think it's the best movie Pixar has ever made. So, I was ready to go with this short film. I found it quite enjoyable. Now, there's nothing revolutionary about Burn-E, but it does provide an entertaining story that it's intricately connected to the events of the movie. It was well worth watching.

In Wall-E, Burn-E makes a quick appearance- it's funny, but easy to overlook. This short film includes that scene, but shows us significantly more of what Burn-E experienced due to Wall-E and Eve's antics. I really appreciated this approach. It ties this story firmly to the main movie story, but it also expands on one of the characters there. That felt cool to me. I've seen Wall-E twice and the character of Burn-E didn't really register to me, other than one cute gag. This film gives us more time with this long-suffering little robot.

That's really the focus of this film and it's fairly clever. Burn-E is trying to do his job, but Wall-E and Eve keep interrupting, keep throwing his work day into chaos. It's funny and entertaining. As the movie progresses, you begin to relate to Burn-E. He just wants to complete his task. This helps build some momentum as the film progresses, as he tirelessly works to overcome obstacles on his task. This probably becomes even funnier because it's a fairly pointless task, in the grand scheme of the events of the movie. It's a task that appropriately takes up 3 seconds of a feature, but here we get 8 minutes. Still, you want the little guy to succeed.

The film is animated just like the movie so it looks as beautifully rendered as you would expect. Even though it's been some time since this film was released, it's still gorgeously animated.

I liked Burn-E. I like this world and it was fun getting to know more about an easily-overlooked robot. I feel like Pixar's feature-related shorts are a little hit-or-miss, but this one was definitely a strong one.
