Review:
Tim: This is another early Louis Lumiere film. It's less than a minute long, but it a great example of the power of early film. We see Louis' brother Auguste, his wife, and their baby, Andree, eating dinner outside. The wind blows the leaves on the tree in the background, the baby eats, and Auguste's wife drinks tea.
Not much happens in this film, but again, it's amazing to look back in time at the clothes, the food, and the kitchenwear used in 1895. What struck me most about this movie are the baby's eyes. They look so stark, so curious in this film. It really makes you wonder, especially when you consider the baby here died at the age of 24 in the 1918 flu pandemic (which killed an astonishing 1-3% of the world's population.
Like most of these early films, this is only required viewing for the most passionate film fanatic. You have to work to appreciate this, but it's pretty amazing when you do.
