Review:
Tim: This movie was universally enjoyed by critics and normal people alike. I thought it was certainly good, but not nearly as good as people made it out to be. The music is excellent, and there are several songs I absolutely loved. I especially loved "Say it to Me" and "Falling Slowly." Both Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova do tremendous jobs, and their musical skills are amazing. Their singing is remarkable. They also have a great deal of chemistry as well (in an odd, unlikely and unconventional way).
The movie, a musical, is unlike the vast majority of musicals. The music is weaved beautifully into the story, and never feels out of place or disconnected from the larger movie. These are blended together beautifully, and make this movie quite enjoyable.
I wish the movie packed more of an emotional punch. I enjoyed the characters and the story, but the movie never really tugged at the heartstrings quite like I had hoped. I never really felt any emotion while watching the story, and I feel like this detracted from my overall enjoyment of the movie. This is one of the biggest flaws of the movie.
