Review:

Tim: I really enjoyed the original Mortal Kombat- significantly more than I expected I would. That's why this film is so surprising- Mortal Kombat: Annihilation is absolutely one of the worst movies I have ever seen. This putrid, puny effort is nothing but a complete and total disaster. I can't even fathom how awful this movie turned out to be. It lost me in the first two minutes, and I had no interest in anything that happened and nothing on screen changed my mind over the next 93 minutes. This movie is one of the worst ever.

The script seems like it was written by throwing darts at a board with words on them, and then putting sentences together with whatever words were hit. It's a nearly incomprehensible slew of moronic moments from start to finish. The film is basically one fight scene after another, filled with characters who randomly appear for the fight, and disappear after. It makes no sense. The dialogue is truly pathetic drivel, and I can't believe the "actors" in this film were paid enough to utter it on screen. The dialogue serves no purpose except to move the actors to the next cheesy fight scene. It was really, really hard to watch.

The cast is one of the worst ever assembled. Most of the original cast members were intelligent enough not to come back. Unfortunately, Robin Shou and Talisa Soto made the mistake of returning. I suspect they will regret that decision for all their lives. They look ridiculous in this train wreck. James Remar makes for a bad Rayden. I like Remar, so I don't want to be too hard on him, but his performance was pitiful. I cringed with every line of dialogue he uttered. The rest of the cast is so godawful I can't even mention their names. They were worthless.

I can't even describe accurately how much I hate this film. From the awful music, the illogical introduction of way too many characters, a stupid storyline, a completely lack of regard for anything intelligent or realistic, Mortal Kombat: Annihilation is a terrible movie in every single sense of the term. This is an embarrassingly bad film that murdered a potential franchise. This is among the worst movies I've ever had the displeasure of watching.
