Summary: Tim Meadows brings his Saturday Night Live character, Leon Phelps, the "Ladies Man" to the big screen. Phelps is a late night radio sex adviser host who is very descriptive and offensive in his advice. He draws much experience from his own very sexually active lifestyle. His producer(Karyn Parsons), tries to get him to tone down his act, but he won't listen. The Ladies Man receives a note from a former rich lover who wants to run away with him. He must now find the identity of this former lover. To complicate matters, a group of Smiley Butt Faced Haters(don't worry, you'll understand when you watch) wants to discover the identity of the man who had affairs with all of their wives. Now the Ladies Man must track down his lover but be cautious that his free sexual lifestyle doesn't catch up with him at the end.
Review:
Tim: This movie has an excellent idea behind it and actually contains many funny scenes, but the film as a whole was not very funny at all. Stupidity can be funny in a comedy, but this film contained too much stupidity that was just plain dumb. Most of the film was that kind of lackluster filmmaking that doesn't really hold your attention in any way.
If you are looking for a side splitting comedy, I recommend you look elsewhere. This film does have some good qualities, such as fine acting by Tim Meadows and Karyn Parsons, and several very funny scenes. However, the film as a whole feels not quite right, and some scenes are so unbelievable, you simply won't be entertained. While this film does have its few and far-between reedeming scenes (the pick-up line, "Can I buy you a fish sandwich?" is hilarious), in the end, its just not worth it.
One thing I want to mention is that this is the first film in which I've seen Will Ferrell. Now, everyone things the guy is hilarious, and that might be so. However, he is just not funny in this movie. I never laughed at any point he was on screen, and if I had been laughing immediately prior to his presence, I stopped when he came on. He might be Hollywood's newest funnyman, but from this film alone... I am not impressed.
If you are a diehard fan of Saturday Night Live, then I guess I could see you watching this film. If you decide to go against my judgement, then I just want to warn you and let you know that you will more than likely be disappointed- just be prepared for a letdown.
