Review:
Tim: The first sequel to the horror franchise already features a sizeable reduction in quality. However, it is important to note that this doesn't represent the lowpoint in the series, either. Not even close. Still, this step backwards features the start of a trend in this horror franchise. Its best days are behind it.
On the positive side, Jason is featured more prominently here, although he has not yet transformed into the iconic killer that has become so easily recognizable. His transformation took time, and here, we see he came from very humble roots.
This isn't a great film, but it's not completely terrible, either. However, the flaws present here would only grow in severity in the coming chapters. If there was a reason to watch the first film to see the birth of this franchise, it is worth seeing this film because it's the first in which Jason Voorhees is the actual killer (if you don't already know this, and I spoiled it for you, then shame on you). It won't kill you to see this film, but I can't speak for the rest of the Friday the 13th films.
