Review:

Tim: I rather enjoyed this small mystery/thriller. It is not exactly a huge movie, but it tells its story fairly well, and you will genuinely be interested in finding out the film's conclusion. The mystery itself is quite curious and suspenseful. However, as the film progresses towards its finale, it begins to get a bit out of control and hard to believe. This is one of the film's biggest flaws.

Kiefer Sutherland is mostly quite good. He embodies the obsession quite well, bringing the paranoia and the desire for understanding to life. Sandra Bullock is decent in a fairly small role. I wish she had more screen time, however. Jeff Bridges is absolutely crazy. He gives such a weird, odd, creepy performance. It is hard to take your eyes off him, because he is so unconventional and so bizarre.

The Vanishing is not your typical movie. It has some flaws, but it also has some scenes that will surprise you with their intelligence. When you add it all up, the movie does more right than it does wrong, but the flaws it has vastly bring it down. While still entertaining, this isn't a particularly strong movie.
