Review:
Tim: I wasn't sure what to think about this movie. It came out not too long after September 11th (if you see four years as not too long), and I wondered how it would come across. I am happy to report that this is an emotional, beautiful film that manages to show the best of humanity on the very day when we were witness to its worst. Will you find a more emotional or a better motion picture this year? I seriously doubt it.
I had a difficult time watching the scenes of other people watching in horror as the planes hit the buildings. This brought me back to that terrible, emotional day. I'm not too manly to admit that I cried when watching those scenes. I don't understand how any American could not.
Director Paul Greengrass sticks with the facts here, showing us exactly what we believe happened. The scenes on board United 93 are equally as emotional. We see innocent men and women who come face to face with an unspeakable evil and found the courage to stand up to that evil despite all consequences- including their own lives. As a result of their bravery, they saved the lives of hundreds or thousands of Americans.
United 93 does a superb job of bringing us back to that fateful day. We see fellow Americans put into the worst possible situation, and we see them act heroically. This is not an easy film to watch, but it is an important film to see. I'm going to say that regardless of the Oscars, this is one of the best movies of the year, and you absolutely need to see it.
