Review:

Tim: The original film was pretty disappointing, so expectations were already pretty low. The movie follows the same path as the original, and is slightly less strong, following the typical sequel route.

I liked the concept of a war between vampires and werewolves, set up in the original film. Here, that plot is slightly lost, instead going back to focus on the origins of both species. This is pretty interesting, but there's not a whole lot to get us excited here.

Kate Beckinsale is decent as Selene, but nothing special. I suppose if you need a heroine to be a tightly-clad-black-leather-wearing vampiress, she's about as good as you can get. Scott Speedman is decent as Michael, but don't mistake decent for good. He inspires nothing in us. The supporting cast is surprisingly talented, although they don't have a whole lot to work with.

The action scenes are pretty good. The highlight is probably the scene with Selene and Michael driving a huge vehicle whole being chased by a huge, flying vampire. This is a pretty impressive sequence. The big climactic battle is pretty good, too. These scenes aren't great, but in a lackluster film, we will take just about anything we can get.

Underworld: Evolution is a continuation in a subpar action horror series. As the first two weren't very good, I hope they end it here and don't subject us to any more pain. This is a decent second-tier franchise, but really, there's no need to turn this into a lackluster trilogy. All in all, expect to be disappointed.
