Review:
Tim: I really enjoyed the original Transporter, so I was at least decently excited about this movie, although also a bit worried about the quality of the film. I can report that unfortunately, this film takes the typical sequel route of trying to be bigger and better than the original. The problem here is that the action and the stunts, which appeared jaw-dropping in the original, here come across as silly, unbelievable, and oftentimes absurd. The stunts we see on screen are very often impossible, and this detracts from the film because we know what we're seeing is ridiculous. This hurts the film more than anything else.
Jason Statham is good in the role. He makes a pretty incredible action hero, and his calm, calculated character is always fun to watch. I liked the original film's exploration of Statham's character, and I sadly missed that aspect this time around.
I was a little disappointed in the action sequences. The first film had some amazing scenes- the one with the oil, as well as the scene where Statham kicks down the door and proceeds to beat up everyone in the house. This movie is devoid of such impressive scenes. Instead, we have ridiculous sequences where Statham flips his car and perfectly scrapes a bomb off from underneath it.
Regardless of these flaws, the film does enough right and uses goodwill from the surprisingly good original to at least be decently entertaining. Unfortunately, they should stop the downward trend and not stretch this into a trilogy.
