Review:

Tim: When I was a kid, I was absolutely in love with the Transformers. I watched the television show, I had the toys, everything. I was pretty excited when this film came out, but also somewhat hesitant. I hadn't seen the show in over a decade, and I didn't know if this would be a good film. Luckily, it is very good. However, there are a few things that prevent it from being great.

Let's start with what is good. The Transformers look amazing. The special effects are astounding, how they transform from vehicles into robots as they battle each other. Director Michael Bay uses the special effects beautifully and they are impressive. The cast is also terrific. Shia LaBeouf has such wonderful charisma. He is so much fun to watch, and is the film's heart. He's great. Megan Fox is decent as LaBeouf's love interest. Josh Duhamel is good, as is Jon Voight.

The film is nearly completely derailed by the performance of John Turturro. He is way too over-the-top. He almost made me disgusted watching him. The first time I watched the film, I couldn't get past his awful performance. It left a terrible taste in my mouth. I hated him in this film. The other major negative involves a few scenes of sheer stupidity. One involves the autobots hiding from LaBeouf's parents (terrible), and the other involves the autobots interacting with Turturro. These parts of the film are downright terrible.

Despite these major flaws, the film has some incredible action scenes, some good drama between the characters, and a few really funny moments. The film is huge scale action movie involving giant fighting robots- what could be better than that?
