Review:

Tim: This film is surprisingly good. The special effects are stunning. You hear films called "visually stunning" far too often. The term has almost become cliche. However, it best describes this film- the combination between traditional animation and computer graphics. The outer space scenes will simply blow you away. They are, in every sense of the word, "stunning." Check it out.

In addition to the terrific animation, the film strongly benefits from its incredible voice cast. Matt Damon is tremendous as the film's hero. He is exactly the voice you'd expect for a young, cocky man who will be transformed into a hero. Bill Pullman works very well as a the battle-weary older hero. His acting is oftentimes not believable in live action films. Here, his voice works extremely effectively. Drew Barrymore does a good job as well and works very well with Damon. The supporting cast of John Leguizamo, Nathan Lane, and Janeane Garofalo are all decent.

The storyline is surprisingly believable and grown-up. In these kind of sci-fi films, the plot is oftentimes abyssmal and weak (Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within for example). Here, the whole story just simply works, even if we're not always sure why. The film is pretty exciting, as the whole future of humanity hangs in the balance. To add to the film's strengths, there are several plot twists that you normally don't find in films like this.

Part of the movie's charm comes from the fact that the story is written more like a real sci-fi film, rather than an animated children's one. Titan A.E. is in a class by itself and well worth your time. There is enough here to thoroughly impress and entertain almost anyone.
