Summary: A United States special force led by a veteran commander (Bruce Willis) is sent into Nigeria to rescue an American missionary (Monica Bellucci)before the Nigerian army arrives and kills her. When they arrive, she refuses to go unless they bring 70 poor Nigerians with them. The commander ignores orders, and decides to do the right thing, and try and bring all the people to freedom. However, with the Nigerian army on their tails, they could all be killed for trying to do the "right thing"

Review:

Tim: This is actually a very decent action film. It scores a great deal of points for its realistic depiction of Africa's problems. Bruce Willis has the truest line in the film- "God left Africa a long time ago." This pretty sums up the current situation in this Third World continent. There is so much sickness, violence, and death in Africa that it is unbelievable. Bravo to everyone who worked on this film, for making a good action movie, and showing a godforsaken place that most Americans are ignore over.

Willis plays his typical action hero here. The larger-than-life yet emotionally driven hero. However, he is void of any of the comedy and one-liners that make the Die Hard movies so great. He is good as an action hero, but he really didn't have to act very much to pull this role off. Mostly he just looks around the jungle, frowning, or having a contemplative look on his face.

You can definitely find better action films out there, but I enjoyed this film, especially with its portrayal of the problems in Africa. Oh, the other thing that bothered me- what the hell were the "tears of the sun" from the title? I either missed it or they didn't explain it, and it made me mad.
