Review:
Tim: After Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, Will Ferrell looked poised to take over the comedy world. This film, then, was obviously met with extremely high expectations. What we have here is a movie that at times is very, very funny. However, it's not up to the level of Anchorman. There are an equal number of parts that are just not funny at all.
Will Ferrell needs to be given all the credit for this movie. He is absolutely hilarious. This movie would not have worked without him. He is extremely memorable as Ricky Bobby, and accounts for the vast majority of the film's laughs.
He has a surprisingly good partner in John C. Reilly. I didn't know that he had such incredible comedic timing, but he does a fantastic job. The rest of the supporting cast is good, with exceptional performances by Sacha Baron Cohen, Amy Adams, and Gary Cole.
Like most of Ferrell's movies, there are at least a handfun of absolutely hilarious, quotable, and memorable moments. I won't go into my favorites here, but there are some wonderful ones. Sadly, there are not quite as many as in Anchorman.
Despite its flaws, Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby will certainly make you laugh. It proves again that Will Ferrell is the funniest man in Hollywood, and gives us hope of many, many funny movies to come.
