Review:
Tim: When one looks at 3000 Miles to Graceland, the first thing that comes to mind is the role of Kevin Costner. He plays Thomas Murphy, a possible bastard child of Elvis Presley, a gruesome and truly bad character. This is probably the darkest role Costner has ever played. Fans of him will question if this is the same man they saw as heroes in films like Field of Dreams, Waterworld, and The Postman. This is definitely a huge change for Costner, but also a refreshing one for viewers. Its good to see him do something different.
Kurt Russell is very, very good in this movie. He is a likeable hero, yet also has an edge of badness that reminds you although you're rooting for him, he is still a thief, and at times, not a very good person. The contradictions in his character make him interesting and fun to watch.
3000 Miles to Graceland offers a very original storyline- I think the idea is great of four Elvis-impersonator thieves robbing a casino during an Elvis-impersonator convention. I can see the eye witness reports now- "Well officer, they had black hair, big glasses, sparkling costumes..." The plot will keep you entertained, excited, and glued to the action from scene to scene. The Elvis-based theme in the backdrop adds a different flavor to the film. The film also has a number of plot twists, which keep you wondering.
This movie also has a great cast. Kevin Costner v. Kurt Russell is incredible enough, but there are good supporting performances by Jon Lovitz, David Arquette, Courteney Cox Arquette, and Christian Slater. It's fun to see these actors in smaller roles, which just adds to the film.
3000 Miles to Graceland is far from a perfect film. It has a number of flaws, but all in all, is a good action film that boasts some impressive scenes, incredible acting, and Kevin Costner as a bad mother-*@$%. It definitly deserves a viewing.
