Review:

Tim: This film was hailed as a near-revolutionary zombie masterpiece (although the word "zombie" is not used at all in the film). As is often the case, the film's true worth is slightly blown out of proportion. Yes, this is a solid movie, but there are a few flaws that hurt it.

This movie is a gritty, frightening look at a band of survivors nearly alone in the middle of a zombie-infested England. It is not particularly scary, but you'll jump once or twice upon your first viewing of the movie.

Cillian Murphy is good in the starring role. I refuse to jump of his bandwagon here. He is a decent actor, but people make too big a deal out of him. I love that Brendan Gleeson is in this movie. I am a huge fan of him, and I am so glad that he was his usual excellent self in the role.

The film starts out well, and I love the scenes with Murphy walking alone in a seemingly deserted London. I also love that the movie did not overdo it with zombie attacks. The film balances its frights very well and is more concerned with exploring the survivors than the zombies. This is where the film is brilliant. I hated the whole military-compound sequence and the film completely falters in the third act. Still, this ranks among the best movies in a subgenre known for terrible films.
