Review:
Tim: In 2004, I had completely given up on television. I was three years into The Movie Files and I despised the crappy, cheap product that the networks put out. Besides sports and news, I watched no television. And then, one day sitting with my dad while he had the TV on, I saw something that changed my life. It was a quick teaser spot. I had no idea what it was about, but the white letters against the black background that spelled "Lost" enthralled me. From that first glimpse, I was hooked. It's funny that at the moment when I hated television the most, perhaps my favorite series of all time would come along. Unlike any show in my life (the closest was "The X-Files"), I obsessed over the most minute details of this series. It was a viewing experience that surpassed anything else I'd ever seen on television and in some ways, surpassed anything I'd ever seen at the movies. To say "Lost" was important to me was a monumental understatement.

I love so much about this show. The island setting. The strange findings- a polar bear on a tropical island, a bizarre hatch in the ground, the mysterious numbers, the flashbacks, the time travel. There's a nearly endless labyrinth of ideas and connections to explore on this show. That made me spend more time than I've ever spent with this show. I watched all the seasons (except the last one) at least twice, excited to pick up on what I missed the first time around. It takes a special show to inspire that level of devotion. I remember reading weekly articles about each episode, trying to figure out what it all meant and where it was all leading.

The cast is one of the biggest and most diverse in television history. Every single player here has a soft spot in my heart for being on this show. I loved Matthew Fox as Jack Shepherd (my favorite character), but this show wouldn't be the same without Evangeline Lilly, Josh Holloway, Jorge Garcia, Naveen Andrews and all the rest. The show did a wonderful job of adding characters and making them feel integral to the entire show. Michael Emerson is a perfect example of this, as are Henry Ian Cusack and Elizabeth Mitchell. Their characters all meant so much to me. If this was a television site instead of a movie one, I'd go into excruciating detail about the entire cast, but let's just say most of them were incredible.

I do want to pay special tribute to my favorite episode of "Lost" and perhaps the most enjoyable episode of television I have ever watched in my life. That episode is "The Constant." The interplay between Desmond and Penny, the time travel, the suspense and intrigue- it stands in my mind as the absolutely quintessential episode of "Lost". It's one of my favorite things ever.

Now, as much as I love "Lost", this wasn't a perfect show. The final season was a little disappointing. There were too many mysteries that weren't wrapped up. I understand how difficult it would have been to adequately explain everything, but for a show that thrived on creating mysteries and one that set the bar as high as "Lost" did, the audience deserved a better conclusion. The last episode was incredibly emotional, but I cannot say I loved the big revelation. It was good, but I expected great. The final shot of the show was powerful and unforgettable, though.

I'm going to force myself to wrap up my thoughts on "Lost", as I could go on all day. I doubt if I'll ever experience anything like this series on television for the remainder of my life. It was a truly remarkable experience watching this show and it remains the series I am most passionate about. It doesn't get any better than this.
