Review:

Tim: Swingers is a mildly funny, real guy movie. Some scenes are absolutely hilarious, more however, are just awful. This is a film that can best be described as lukewarm- not too cold, but not too hot, either. There were a lot of embarrassing scenes (which I normally hate), but were bearable in this film. For example, the answering machine scene with Jon Favreau is about as embarrassing as a human being can get, and yet, it's utterly hilarious.

I am surprised to note that Vince Vaughn and Favreau actually make a really good team. Vaughn is super cool and Favreau is likeable but just aggravating because he is such a loser in so many ways. Some of the messes he gets himself into are frustrating (but funny) to watch. In addition to these two stars, Ron Livingston does a very good job, and Heather Graham is excellent in a too-small part at the end.

Swingers scores its highest points with the social commentary aspects about guys in places like singles clubs. It highlights some funny and very true aspects of the typical male behavior. This is where the film really shines. Unfortunately, that doesn't make up for the slowness of the film, or the frequent unfunny scenes.
