Review:
Tim: This is a good action film. When it first came out, I was excited about it, but figured I would wait until it came to video. That pretty much sums up this film. Its good, but not good enough to run out and see it.
S.W.A.T. does have a great cast. Samuel L. Jackson is a bad ass as usual, Colin Farrell plays his good guy action hero well as always, and LL Cool J and Michelle Rodriguez are good additions to the squad. This film is also pretty smart- its not just about explosions and gunfights, but it has some intelligence beneath it all as well.
A downside to the film is that there is just not enough (or effort put into it) to get too emotionally attached to any of the characters. Sure, there is the scene at the bar and Farrell and Rodriguez at the birthday party. It just comes down to trading character develop for action and that takes away from the film.
This isn't a bad film and its not a bad way to spend an evening. However, the actors involved have all been in better films and this one could have been a little better. All in all, though, S.W.A.T. delivers the action it advertises and will keep you interested. Plus, the theme song is really, really cool.
