Review:
Tim: Superbad performs the rare feat of being both completely profane and vulgar, but at the same time, having a genuine touch of sweetness to it. This is the film's strongest aspect, and what makes you believe this could actually happen. As insane the night that is shown is, the whole movie feels realistic. The characters are believable and real. The film also happens to be very, very funny as well.
Much of the film's success is due to the hilarious performances of Jonah Hill and Michael Cera. These two interact so well together, and have some incredible lines, and are just so much fun to watch on screen. They seem to genuinely enjoy each other's company, and this translates to the audience through the screen. Christopher Mintz-Plasse also gives such an excellent performance. His portrayal of "McLovin'" will go down as one of the most memorable teen sex comedy roles of all time. He's really, really funny. The film is also helped out by great performances by Bill Hader and Seth Rogan. The whole cast is great.
The film has some truly memorable scenes. The liquor store, the crazy party, and the film's high school party climax are all unforgettable scenes. However, the movie's highlight has to be the "McLovin'" revelation scene. I can't stop laughing every single time I think about it: "McLovin? What kind of a stupid name is that, Fogell? What, are you trying to be an Irish R&B singer?" (one of the funniest lines ever).
Superbad is not without its flaws- it loses its way a few times and ends up taking far too long to get to the conclusion. However, the movie is very enjoyable, hilarious, and one you won't soon forget. It makes you remember being young, when things were much simpler- and it makes you yearn for those days. I highly recommend this film.
