Summary: Tells the story of New York in the summer of 1977, when the Son of Sam Killer ran loose, murdering people senselessly.
Review:
Tim: Spike Lee's film really tries to show you what it was like during that summer in 1977 in NYC... at least, in the hispanic/white/black, drug-dealing, freak section of NYC. Honestly, it's not the best place in the world. It also tries really hard to show the fear and paranoia that the killer created in the city.
Summer of Sam is a strange, disturbing movie with absolutely no characters that you can like or relate to. This film could have been much better... if it was shorter. It drags on and on and on. Overall though, I appreciate it showing the paranoia that follows something like a killing spree like the one in '77. However, unless serial killers fascinate you to no end, I wouldn't recommend this film, because after watching it you will doubt there's any good left in the human race... either that, or wake up from your nap.
