Summary: Harold Crick (Will Ferrell) wakes up one day to discover he hears a woman's (Emma Thompson) voice, narrating everything he does. This is annoying at first, but soon turns serious when she foreshadows his untimely death.
Review:
Tim: Something about this movie appealed to me from the first time I saw it. I liked the idea of a man hearing a narration of his life. I also liked the casting of Will Ferrell in a role where he would have to show restraint.
The cast is great. Ferrell does a very good job as Harold Crick. He is extremely believable and very likeable. He makes the movie enjoyable. I didn't so much enjoy Maggie Gyllenhaal, although she does increase in effectiveness towards the end of the movie. Dustin Hoffman was a good choice, but he doesn't have nearly enough to do. I feel the exact way about Emma Thompson. I don't like Queen Latifah, but they should have had more for her to do, as well.
This isn't a perfect movie. It has major flaws, but the story has some originality to it, and it will do a good job of entertaining you for a few hours. I do wish it had been a little better, but after having such high expectations, I can't say I am too disappointed.
