Summary: After being fired from a high profile job and suffering a nervous breakdown, Joanna (Nicole Kidman) moves with her husband (Matthew Broderick) to Stepford. There, she realizes that something very strange is wrong with all the women in Stepford and may uncover something far more terrifying than she ever imagined.

Review:

Tim: For a movie about a town where the wives are turned into robots, this is surprisingly plausible and realistic. That being said, the concept itself is ridiculous, so you still end up with a silly movie, but a much better one than you might anticipate.

Nicole Kidman is decent in the role. Her best scenes come at the very end. I like that she's mixing her serious films with some comedies and I applaud that, even if this film was a bit subpar. Matthew Broderick is decent, but doesn't have much to do. To tell you the truth, I wasn't really impressed with anyone in the entire cast. No one was particularly bad, but no one was really too great, either. Kidman and Glenn Close come the closest to being good. I was interested in seeing how Faith Hill would act, but her part is virtually worthless.

There are a few funny moments mixed in with some disturbing ones (not grotesquely disturbing, more philosophically disturbing). This is an interesting combination, and it gives the film a unique feel.

While The Stepford Wives is flawed, there is enough good to warrant you seeing the movie. You will be pleasantly surprised at some areas of the film. This isn't a bullseye, but its at least a near miss.
