Review:
Tim: This was billed as the final journey of a generation, and it ended the Next Generation's reign over the Star Trek movies. It couldn't have come sooner. After three movies, I had begun to tire of these characters, and I am not sure I could have taken any more. This is the final journey of Picard and company, and I'm glad for it.
The story is decent enough, something about a Picard clone, trying to take over Earth. This does account for a few thrilling moments, although the majority of them are without much suspense. I never really got too into the story, and I was a bit confused about some of the events occurring. I suppose this might have been due to the fact that I had trouble paying attention, because I just wasn't that interested or engaged. The movie needed to be more powerful.
The cast is decent, I suppose. I like Patrick Stewart as Captain Picard, and as this movie really focuses on him as a character, he has a few great opportunities to showcase his acting skills. I enjoyed him here. Brent Spiner also gives a good performance. He is truly a fan favorite, and he earned that through multiple impressive performances in these Star Trek movies. The rest of the cast is unmemorable, giving their less than spectacular performances.
Star Trek: Nemesis is a movie that has a difficult time differentiating itself from the previous three films. The first six Star Trek movies never had this problem, but these Next Generation ones all seem to be far too similar. This is the 10th movie in the Star Trek franchise, and it represents the need to make a major shift. These characters are finally wearing out their welcome, and I am not sad to see them go.
