Summary: Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) struggles with his new life as a superhero as well as a normal person, his growing distance from Mary Jane Watson (Kirsten Dunst), and feelings of guilt over his role in his Uncle Ben's death, and that effect on Aunt May (Rosemary Harris). His life becomes even more complicated when brilliant scientist Otto Octavius (Alfred Molina) accidentally transforms himself into Dr. Octopus and wrecks havoc on New York.

Review:

Tim: For a comic book movie and a sequel, this film far exceeds any expectations placed on it. Make no mistake about it, this is one amazing movie.

The cast is excellent. Tobey Maguire is really getting into his role and developing nicely. Kirsten Dunst is decent as Mary Jane, but not superb.

Alfred Molina is perfectly cast as Dr. Octopus. He proves to be an even better bad guy than Willem Dafoe in the first film.

The story this time around is bold and excellent. Director Sam Raimi really explores the less glamorous side of being a superhero. In a genius move, he makes his film about the characters and their development more than all about crimefighting and adventures. The final few scenes in this movie are unexpected but powerful.

The special effects are spectacular. The battle between Spider Man and Dr. Octopus on the train is a truly intense and memorable scene. It is truly a highlight.

Sam Raimi once again evokes powerful emotions from us. Especially touching is the scene between Peter and Aunt May when she talks about the importance of heroes. It is great.

The only negative that I have is that I wish there was more action in the film. Raimi needed just a few more scenes of battles between Spidey and Doc Oc. Then, the film would have been perfect.

Spider-Man 2 ends in perfect fashion, setting up everythng for the second sequel. I honestly cannot wait.
