Review:

Tim: I wanted to like this movie. It is about time travel, dinosaur hunting, and stars Edward Burns. Those characteristics right there pretty much guaranteed I'd watch this movie. Sadly, the movie is an absolute mess. The biggest flaw (and there are many) is that this is a science fiction film that required a great deal of special effects. The special effects were done so cheaply and hastily that it ruins the movie. There are a few digitalized monsters that look realistic, but the vast majority of them are completely laughable. They are so shoddily done that it is comedic how fake they look. This is the singly biggest flaw of the film.

Unfortunately, it's not the only one. The script is fairly ridiculous. While there is an interesting premise, the movie unravels in the third act, and any amount of interest or care we had in the movie is completely destroyed. The film is just a disaster.

I really liked seeing Edward Burns in an action/sci-fi movie. However, he picked an awful one to do. He's easily the best thing in a terrible, terrible movie. I was also surprised to see Ben Kingsley slumming it in this awful movie. The rest of the cast is forgettable.

A Sound of Thunder could have been far less terrible if any real amount of money was spent on the special effects. The lack of this gives the entire film an overwhelmingly cheap feel. The cast are all stuck in a awful, awful movie. Unless you are ridiculous fans of Burns or science fiction films (or if you just want a really good, unintentional laugh), then I'd pass this one by.
