Summary: After a hot and heavy relationship between a woman (Ashley Judd) and her boss (Greg Kinnear) abruptly ends, she takes her scorn out by publishing a magazine column under a pseudonym on her surprisingly philosophy about why men cheat and/or leave happy relationships. Her playboy co-worker (Hugh Jackman) begins to form a friendship with her, which may damage her theory on men.

Review:

Tim: This is amazing. Ashley Judd is playing a role that I actually like!?!? I need ot sit for a moment and just try to comprehend the gravity of this situation. She actually got away from serial killer or legal thrillers (mostly with Morgan Freeman) and did a romantic comedy?!?! What a great idea. I am so sick of her being in the same movie over and over again (what is she thinking?) Between High Crimes, Double Jeopardy, Kiss the Girls, and A Time to Kill, its almost impossible to tell one movie (or her roles) apart. This was a smart career choice by doing a romantic comedy to break up the monotony of her typical films. She is veyr likeable in this film, and dare I say it, quite good(!)

The rest of the supporting cast is decent, although you'd expect more from them. Greg Kinnear gives an uninspired performance. I know he could have been much better, but he was just unimpressive. Equally inept is Marisa Tomei, who definitely has the potential for a better performance. Hugh Jackman gets into the romantic comedy scene here, but isn't as good as he is in say... Kate & Leopold. He gives a decent performance. His best quality throughout is the sheer amounts of charm he expels. He and Judd actually have some good chemistry and are enjoyable together on screen.

Besides the cast, there isn't much to talk about here. Someone Like You is a good romantic comedy, but fails in offering much of anything different. The genre has a pretty set formula, and this film follows it to a T. Therefore, the film is incredibly predictable and no different from any other romantic comedy. While this film is good, it unfortunately must be compared to other (and far better) romantic comedies. That is where the film suffers its biggest fault- this might be a good film, but nearly indistinguishable from the thousands of other rom coms. I guess Judd has the problem no matter what type of movie she's in.
