Review:
Tim: This was a movie that had a great deal of potential. I am a huge fan of films that successfully blend monster horror with comedy. Tremors is still one of my all-time favorite movies. This film felt very similar. I like movies that seek to have fun with the audience, without taking itself too seriously.
I have to say that I was slightly disappointed with the film. Yes, the film has those qualities that I love in monster movies. However, the movie is just missing something. The film was incredibly gross, but this works well. The movie is also somewhat unique, in that it combines various parts from a number of science fiction movies, boiling them all up and coming up with something different.
Nathan Fillion makes a good leading man. He's certainly enjoyable in the lead-role of semi-decent movies (Serenity, anyone?). I really liked seeing Elizabeth Banks here. I'm a big fan of hers, and she's quite enjoyable here. I also liked seeing Jenna Fischer in a very small role. You also have to mention Gregg Henry in his hilarious role.
The film is fairly entertaining, but in the end, the movie simply borrows from too many films. It never gets away from feeling like a patchwork film. The movie has some very memorable scenes, but these also happen to be the grossest. When the film isn't giving the audience shivers from grotesqueness, it is fairly boring. The characters are sadly one-dimensional, and the movie just doesn't make much of an emotional impact.
Slither definitely has some positives. The movie does have an original feel to it. There are some funny moments throughout the movie. However, in th end, the movie just isn't as funny or as scary as it needed to be. While decent, you still can't help but wish this was a bit better.
