Review:

Tim: I really like the idea behind this movie- to show what really happened on the set of Nosferatu, a film any movie buff should well be aware. The story is obviously not totally fact-based, as the premise is that Max Schreck may well have been a real vampire. This is an interesting concept, and anyone who's seen the classic vampire movie will undoubtedly entertain this idea.

John Malkovich is excellent as Murnau. He brings the perfect drive Murnau no doubt had to finish his masterpiece at all costs. Willem Dafoe is frighteningly real as Schreck, in a bit of inspired casting.

Shadow of the Vampire has quite a few chilling moments, but the real pleasure from viewing comes in the film's "what if" look at Nosferatu. It brings up some very interesting points, and makes one want to further research the classic 1922 film.

If you are a movie lover and are considering watching this film, I certainly hope you have seen Nosferatu first. Shame on you if you haven't, but don't watch this movie until you have- you will enjoy it a thousand times more. If you are just looking for a good horror movie, I advise you to pass this one by. It is definitely more than just a vampire movie.
