Review:
Tim: The original film was so good because it tried to stay believable and realistic while paying homage to the cartoon. This film tips the scale and the movie becomes much more cartoon-like. Fans of the old cartoon will love seeing familiar monsters alive again on the big screen. However, this isn't a cartoon, and that shift ultimately hurts the movie.
The special effects are pretty amazing, however. Scooby-Doo still doesn't quite look real, though. The monsters all look tremendous and are fun to watch on screen.
The worst part of the movie is that it is too silly and absurd at times. The main characters, instead of becoming more comfortable in their roles, have been worse and less realistic. Thus, they are less credible and much less believable.
The film starts out really slow and does get better, but it is missing something from the original film. Little kids will no doubt love this movie, but more intellectually advanced viewers can't help but be somewhat disappointed. Despite its many flaws, Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed is at least decently entertaining. I am scared to mention it and I know I will regret it later, but a second sequel might not be the worst decision ever.
