Review:

Tim: I truly don't understand why Show and Tell exists. It was a DVD bonus short film, but I can't find much information about it. It's weird to watch a short film with hand-drawn animation that continues the story of characters depicted in beautifully rendered computer animation in the main movie. Why wouldn't you just animate it the same way?

This short film focuses on the fact that the characters from Abominable stay in touch. Yi, Jing and Peng send a care package to Everest (through the Yeti Postal Service, maybe?) and Everest pulls out all the gifts, much to the delight and awe of the yeti community. This short film doesn't really give us much insight into the characters that we didn't know before. I guess we see more of yeti life and we know the characters keep in touch. That's not a compelling enough reason for this short film, though.

The story is basic and not that interesting. It's Everest pulling things out of a box and the "hilarity ensues". It was all pretty boring. I watched this short with my 4 year-old son right after the incredible Marooned and we were both disengaged. He kept asking questions and was generally just confused. He didn't like this film and I didn't, either.

I'm not even sure why I'm writing this, other than I spent the time watching the short film, so I should account for it in my total. Dreamworks did some impressive things with Abominable and Marooned, but this little short film adds nearly nothing to the conversation. It should have been left on the cutting room floor.
