Review:

Tim: Marvel's third short film is interesting, as it deals with some of the fallout from The Avengers, and specifically the fact that an alien race invaded Earth and wrecked New York City. I love that this film broadened that world by exploring what happens when two ordinary people find a Chitauri weapon. It's an interesting question- what if this super advanced alien technology landed in your lap- what would you do with it? Would you turn it over to the authorities, or like Lizzy Caplan and Jesse Bradford, would you use it to rob banks?

This short film does a good job of broadening our understanding of SHIELD. We once again see Maximiliano Hernandez as Agent Sitwell and are introduced to Agent Blake, played by Titus Welliver. I love that Marvel is broadening our understanding of SHIELD- showing some of the players on the periphery. Hernandez is always fun as Sitwell, and I am a huge Titus Welliver fan (his work on "Lost" is amazing). I loved that Welliver has a SHIELD role, and he was fun to watch. Lizzy Caplan and Jesse Bradford were quite good as the bank robbing couple. I like both these actors, and they worked really well together. I hope to see more of them in future Marvel movies.

While I enjoyed the story, I felt like the ending was a bit much. It was a nice ending in that it made you feel good about the characters and gave you hope that you might see these characters again, but it was really farfetched. I just could never see this happening in real life, especially not in a big bureaucratic organization like SHIELD. The ending was audience pleasing, but very unrealistic.

I like that this Marvel One-Shot was a bit longer than the previous ones, and it was used more effectively- it introduced new characters that further opened up the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it showed more about SHIELD, specifically. It was certainly interesting and fun. I sincerely hope they continue to use these One-Shot shorts for important things, and not just throwaway things.
