Review:

Tim: This movie reminds me a lot of Wall-E, which is perhaps why I love it so much. There's something undeniably entertaining about watching anthropomorphic robots silently working and yet, conveying emotion. I thought Andrew Erekson's short film was beautiful.

The story is simple but packed with quite a bit. A robot has been marooned on the moon and wants to repair a rocket ship to return home. While working, he uncovers another robot and enlists him to help see his dream become a reality. The relationship between the two robots develops surprising depth in only a few minutes, to the point where you actually care about them and are rooting for them to succeed. As mentioned, this is accomplished absent any dialogue whatsoever. The brilliance of Erekson's film is how much emotion he conveys through body language, beeps, and facial expressions.

The animation is beautifully rendered- I really thought the film looked incredible. Seeing these robots on the surface of the moon, the earth up in the sky, it all tapped into that awe of space travel and the galaxy beyond our planet. The animation certainly helped bring this out.

I've never been the biggest fan of short films, but I keep watching them for films like Marooned. It tells a beautiful, emotional story in a small package. It's an impressive film and one of the best shorts I've seen in a long, long time.
