Review:

Tim: I thought Lou was a perfectly fine Pixar animated short. It's a pretty cute story about a monster made up of items that children have lost on the playground. His form and shape changes based on which items he's made up of. This gives the animation a nice edge to it- Lou looks different at various points in the film. It was fun to see a film about a character whose shape continually changes. I thought the idea was clever. It's not brilliant or anything, but it's a cute, clever idea for a story.

As you'd expect, the animation is solid. It looks like a Pixar film, which its bright colors and vibrant feel. I have to say that while the animation was good, it didn't totally blow me away like Piper did. That film felt truly beautiful- the animation was stunning. The animation is good here, but not at the same level. Still, it counts as a strength for this film.

I also liked how the story isn't really about Lou- it's about a bully on the school yard. Incorporating bullying into the story felt timely and important. I liked the way it was handled and how it was resolved by the end. The film does a good job of addressing it and teaching a valuable lesson. That was probably the thing I liked best about the film.

I really enjoy that Pixar focuses on developing these short films. Each feels different and that's a very good thing. I had fun watching this short film. I might not have loved it, but it's a truly solid, worthwhile film.
