Review:

Tim: I've been vocally not a fan of The Incredibles. I think it shamelessly steals from better superhero lore. I know many people love it, but I'm not one of them. So, I went into Jack-Jack Attack with a little trepidation. This short was originally a scene in the movie, but it was cut. Later, it was expanded into this short. This is actually a really enjoyable little film. I had a lot of fun watching it and appreciated it more than the feature-length film.

The short is fairly humorous- it tells the story of an unsuspecting babysitter watching Jack-Jack, who reveals a series of superpowers in a chaotic stream. You kind of put yourself in this babysitter's shoes. What would you do if you were responsible for a tiny human who suddenly starting floating, disappearing and reappearing, caught fire, and had laser eyes? It's a funny scenario and the short moves quickly from one gag to another. It's not high comedy, but it's an enjoyable way to spend 5 minutes.

The animation is good- the colors, the depiction of these characters, it all works. The film is well directed by Brad Bird- it quickly sets up the characters and the scenario and it dives right into the action. It moves fast, which holds our attention. There's even an unexpected appearance by Syndrome (whom I must admit, I forgot all about).

Fans of The Incredibles will probably want to check this short movie out. It's not a necessity, but it's a chance to spend a few additional minutes with Jack-Jack. I didn't expect to like this, but it's a short film I would certainly recommend.
