Review:
Tim: The 1969 Frosty the Snowman is one of the all-time classic Christmas short films. This was such an indelible aspect of my childhood. When I watched this with my four year-old son and 15-month-old daughter, I probably hadn't seen the film in 20 years. And yet, so much of it was seared onto my memory, it felt like it had been only a short time since I'd watched it. It's funny, how certain films like this just become part of the Christmas tradition, part of the collective cultural consciousness. This is certainly an influential, must-see film.

The short movie tells the origin story of Frosty the Snowman, expanding some on the familiar song we all know. The story itself is fine- a magician's hat brings him to life, and then the magicians wants to take it back. It's all very simple, but it's definitely appropriate for the target demographic. It offers up a bit of adventure and the expected Christmas magic. It's a harmless, entertaining little story.

The voice cast is solid. I'm not sure I could associate any of the characters with anyone else's voice. They are just those characters, at this point. The animation is effective. In today's age, it's always fun to see traditional, hand-drawn animation.

Frosty the Snowman is a classic animated short Christmas film. It's just a part of American culture and it's well-worth seeing. I might have always been more a fan of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, but you can't deny the importance of this movie.
