Summary: High school baseball coach Jim Morris (Dennis Quaid) had his shot at the big leagues. He injured his shoulder and retired before he ever made it. He makes a deal with his team- win the division championship, and he would try out for the major leagues. The team wins and true to his word, he tried out... and made it. He brought his 95 mile per hour fastball to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.

Review:

Tim: Disney made an inspirational movie for the whole family. That isn't necessarily anything new, but it is something to be commended. Quaid was the perfect choice to play Jim Morris, as he is able to be someone tough and strong, yet fearful of his past and his own failures. This is really an excellent baseball movie. I feel some people might have been turned off to it because its rated G, but the film has something for everyone, of all ages.

The movie isn't just about baseball, as it also talks about the importance of pursuing dreams and fighting for what you want out of life. Those are both admirable traits, and could do much of America good to see that on screen.

I was a little surprised at first to find out that this isn't so much a baseball movie, but a movie about Quaid's character. The scenes when the high school team are winning are difficult to enjoy. As viewers, you don't really care about the team or its success. As a result, the talents of Jay Hernandez are wasted in a minor, meaningless role. What you do care about is Quaid's character and the team scenes create some conflict in the movie.

Other than that, this is a good family film with a powerful message. Hats off to Disney for doing it again. I do recommend this film. Its decent, but entertaining and has a good moral.
