Review:

Tim: 16 years after the disaster that was Rocky V, we're back as the Italian Stallion comes out of retirement. This might seem like a bad idea, but this brought some respect back to this once-glorious franchise. This film can't compare with the earlier installments, but I have to say, it is so good to see Rocky back on the big screen. Sylvester Stallone plays him so well, and with so much enthusiasm that it is literally contagious. Stallone knows this character so well, and has always had the most success when drawing parallels between Balboa's life, and his own.

This is the story of an aging champion, a man who had everything in the world, and lost it all again. This is a man who became an icon and who became a regular guy once again. The film shows this man struggling against age and time, and suddenly given an opportunity for one last chance at immortality. This is fascinating to watch a man in this situation, and Stallone is outstanding.

The situation and premise of the film is brilliant- a computer simulation claiming the former champ would beat the current champ if they could both fight in their primes. From this, we get to see Rocky in one last underdog bout, against an overwhelming opponent. This is Rocky at his best, and we are given an enjoyable, entertaining film. This isn't the best Rocky movie, but it ends the franchise exactly how it should have ended, paying tribute to one of the greatest cinematic heroes.
