Review:

Tim: There is some disagreement about the quality of this film, especially compared to others. I found myself slightly confused about the final rating of this film. But, regardless of what I finally decided upon, I strongly feel like this is the weakest entry into the Rocky franchise.

The death of Apollo Creed was definitely upsetting, and I like the idea of Rocky entering the ring for revenge, but Sylvester Stallone should have called it quits before this film existed. It represents a significant drop in quality.

Yes, the final fight with Drago is impressive. This captalizes on the very best of this franchise- Rocky, the perennial underdog, is up against overwhelming odds. We love watching this, and Rocky IV gives us another chance to see this.

As a whole, this film is just not nearly as good as any of the others. The whole Rocky story was starting to get old and stale, and it was time for Stallone to hang up the gloves. Sadly, he didn't, and as a result, Rocky IV tarnishes the otherwise excellent franchise.
