Review:

Tim: Mel Brooks gives us another enjoyable comedic spoof. However, this film doesn't rank up there with Blazing Saddles. It has a few good laughs, but overall, leaves much, much to be desired.

Cary Elwes makes a surprisingly good Robin Hood. Elwes is so good at throwing himself into these comedic roles, never taking himself seriously at all. He has a great deal of charisma, and his smugness comes across very likeable on screen. I really enjoyed him in this role, and will always remember Elwes for this performance. Dave Chappelle makes a good partner, and accounts for some very funny scenes. Amy Yasbeck is fairly decent as Maid Marian.

The rest of the cast is less strong. Richard Lewis is surprisingly unfunny. Richard Rees is a bit too over-the-top, but I don't have too many complaints. The rest of the cast is forgettable.

As Brooks usually does as a writer and director, there are some memorably funny scenes. The "Men in Tights" song is ridiculous, but it is hard to get out of your head. The archery competition is quite funny as well. There are many other humorous scenes, but the film as a whole is surprisingly unfunny. I wish there had been more laughs.

Robin Hood: Men in Tights is a good enough film to keep you entertained. It does an impressive job of spoofing the familiar Robin Hood story. However, it just needed to be much, much funnier. Mel Brooks fans won't want to miss this, but it's nothing spectacular or a must-see.
