Review:

Tim: I was so pumped about this sequel because I absolutely loved the original (it is still one of my all time favorite horror movies). I figured that this would be entertaining, even if it didn't measure up to the original. I was right. While this film cannot compare to The Ring, it is still better than the majority of horror films that come out of Hollywood today (so many are purely crap).

The biggest problem with this film is that it acts just like any other horror film, instead of striving to be in a league of its own like the first film. The movie also tends to be a bit slow and boring. There are surprisingly few scares in the film. Many scenes, which are supposed to be scary, simply are not (the deer scene especially). There are a few memorable moments- the bathtub scene is terrific.

This movie is still worth seeing if you liked the first film. The story continues and we learn more about Samara's past. This is really interesting.

Naomi Watts resumes her role flawlessly. She is one of the all-time great horror heroines. She acts wonderfully and is such a strongwilled, admirable woman. She also has the hands-down greatest line in the entire film. It takes place right after the well scene. I'd love to write it here, but I won't spoil it for you.

I will admit that when positioned face-to-face with the first film, this movie pales in comparison. It should be noted that very few films could compare to the excellent original, and that in the grand spectrum of horror movies, this sits fairly high. Don't expect too much, but if you liked the first movie, see how "terror comes full circle."
