Review:
Tim: Reservoir Dogs is an unbelievably great independent film. Quentin Tarantino shoots out of nowhere to create a must-see movie.
This is a gritty, bloody, violent curse-filled film that is incredibly entertaining to watch. It is amazing that Tarantino blasted onto the scene with this movie. For as good as it is, though, you can tell at certain points that this is the director's first film. Nothing against Tarantino, but in the midst of a great movie, his inexperience shows. However, you can also see the promising talent that will make its mark on Hollywood.
This movie has all the stylish and amazing dialogue that is present in all of Tarantino's films. It is interesting to trace it all back to this film. The most important reason to watch this movie is to see a young director gaining experience while just beginning his film career.
Like all Tarantino films, the cast is excellent. Harvey Keitel is tremendous as always. Michael Masden is diabolically psychotic. Tim Roth is surprisingly excellent in this movie. Steve Buscemi is just his usual good supporting self. The rest of the cast is decent.
Pay especially attention to the opening scene, as it is a perfect example of Tarantino's wit. Also, don't miss the infamous ear scene. Reservoir Dogs is not without its flaws, but taken in context of a young director making his first film, then you have to be blown away by how good it is.
