Summary: After a professional football strike, the Washington Sentinels hire a series of replacements as a way of trying to break the strike, and continue the season. The replacements are immediately hated by the striking football players. The replacements include has-been quarterback Shane "Footsteps" Falco (Keanu Reeves), a speedy but butterfingers wide-receiver (Orlando Jones), and a washed up coach (Gene Hackman). Together, they defy the odds and prove they can win.

Review:

Tim: Man,I love football movies. Sure, they are all pretty much variations on the same thing, but they are so entertaining. This film is pretty much a compliation of every football movie ever made- it has the has-been quarterback who returns to glory, the tough-but-inspirational aging coach, the tough/semi-crazy linebacker, etc. However, even though you know you're not watching anything new, you can't help but think that somehow, it doesn't matter. This movie is one of the most fun football movies to come out in the last few years. So often, football flicks are dramas- not nearly enough comedies are made in this subgenre.

Keanu Reeves follows his Matrix breakthrough-performance with another great one as Shane Falco. He's excellent in the film. He makes a believable quarterback and a worthy leader. Gene Hackman doesn't have much to do, but he plays his part brilliantly. He is definitely a good choice for a football choice. Orlando Jones is very funny in the film and adds a nice comedic touch.

Keep in mind, this film is unrealistic, but very, very fun. Watch for Orlando Jones' endzone celebration where he uses the football like a gun- it is hilarious and a highlight of the movie.

In the end, I really do recommend this film. It's pure enjoyment to watch. And hey- there is a scene where a dozen football players sing "I Will Survive," led by Orlando Jones. Now that is funny stuff. You should have a very fun time watching this movie.
