Review:
Tim: I feel like this movie was almost a heat check for Pixar. Who would have thought an animated movie about a rat chef could work? This had disaster written all over it. Who wants to watch rats in a restaurant? I felt like Pixar said to themselves, "If we can make this work, we can make anything work." Shockingly...amazingly... Pixar pulls it off. Their Midas touch is intact. This movie is completely entertaining, and you never question how ridiculous this movie could have been.
To be fair, this is not my favorite Pixar movie. But, for a film that could have been awful, this is an amazing achievement. Pixar made rats appealing. I can't get over this. The film is beautifully animated, and has that perfect blend between humor and heart. The movie is entertaining.
Patton Oswalt felt like an unlikely choice for Remy, the film's star. He does great voice work, however. The rest of the cast all give good performances, but few of the voices are immediately recognizeable.
Ratatouille (seriously, the film succeeded even with that name!) is surprisingly better than it could have been. While not up to part with Toy Story or Cars, this is another solid Pixar effort. Kids will love this movie.
