Review:

Tim: While the second and third Rambo movies left something to be desired, I was genuinely looking forward to this movie. With Rocky Balboa, Sylvester Stallone proved he could resurrect a long-dormant character with impressive results. He gives Rambo the treatment here, and although not as good as his latest Rocky movie, this one is still effective. It helps to leave the character with a good taste in your mouth.

While Rocky Balboa really focused on the aging Rocky, Rambo only references the main character's age in passing. In truth, Stallone looks incredibly buff and surprisingly young in the film. He has the world-weary look, but that's been present in all the Rambo movies.

The plot of this film really isn;t that important. It is not terrible by any means, and there is some genuine tension at the captive held by Burmese soldiers. This all serves only one purpose, though- to give John Rambo an excuse to resume his duty as a killing machine. Many of the action scenes are fairly impressive, although I was bit disappointed at the film's climax. Yes, lots and lots of people die, but I felt it was a bit of a cop-out. You'll see what I mean when you watch the film.

While I thought the film could have been much better, it was still great seeing Rambo on the big screen after a 20-year absence. This film is on part with the second and third installments, but doesn't compare to the impressive original. The action is decent, the plot a bit thin, but what else would you expect from this kind of film? Sylvester Stallone scores a decent hit with his fourth Rambo movie. He gave us just enough to keep us entertained. Luckily, he did nothing to tarnish the franchise's legacy.
