Review:

Tim: Plan 9 from Outer Space very well might be the worst movie of all time. This is a film that has such a bad reputation, that you almost can't believe it could be true. Let me just say that this movie is worse than I even imagined. I know that many people like this movie because it IS so bad- the whole "so bad, it's good" concept. This could not be further from the truth- this movie is so bad, it is nearly unwatchable. There is nothing likeable about this movie. It was a complete and total waste of my time. I hated this movie because it is an insult to movies everywhere.

Plan 9 from Outer Space is proof of two things- 1. Budgets do matter 2. Not anyone can make a movie. Ed Wood directed, produced, and wrote this gigantic piece of trash. He is completely responsible for the massive failure in this, perhaps the worst movie of all time. It is so bad on so many different levels that I barely know where to start. The movie itself looks like garbage. The special effects were terrible in 1959, and are even worse looking today. The sets are awful, the makeup is terrible, and every second of this movie just looks cheap and stupid. The writing might be the worst of all time. The dialogue is completely atrocious. Some of the film's lines are actually painful to listen to- I wanted to clap my hands over my ears and make it stop. I also fell asleep halfway through the movie because it was so boring and bad. The acting is awful throughout the movie, because most of the people involved are ridiculous, weak actors (plus they had moronic dialogue to deal with).

After watching this movie, I have a newfound disgust for people that like this movie. There are absolutely no redeeming qualities at all in this film. I can be sympathetic for smaller budgets, if the story is good. The story here is a messy jumble of incomprehensible crap that insults the audience while maintaining its own sense of preachy pride. The fact that Wood knew he was making his "masterpiece" makes this movie even worse. Before seeing this, if you'd asked me if I thought it was a good idea to combine aliens and zombies in one movie, I would have said it was borderline brilliant. But, this is not what I had in mind- I did not mean like this- not like this.

I watch a lot of movies, and I am often angered or frustrated because of how terrible some of them are. But, most of the bad movies I've seen were made with at least quasi-good intentions by at least somewhat talented people. This film isn't just bad, it is unforgiveably bad. It was created by a talentedless man who had no business even watching movies, let alone creating them. I have no good feelings about this movie at all- I didn't laugh because "it's so bad, it's good." I just felt very tired and very sad that movies like this could exist in a world where so many great movies live. I don't know what the worst movie ever created is, but this one is at least in the running.
